I know I’ve kind of disappeared for a while I guess, but just to let you guys know, lately I’ve been reading “Confessions of A Mask” by Yukio Mishima. I’m not that far into it just because I haven’t had a lot of time to read, but I am enjoying it so far. I really feel like all three of his books I’ve encountered are vastly different in style as well as in theme and substance, and all of them have been done really well. But I’ll get more into that when I finish “Confessions of A Mask”

Anyone else out there reading anything good?

Another weird thing I saw in Portland today. I come from such a strange place…

Anyway, last one tonight, I promise.

SW Park in downtown Portland. It’s not a great picture but he went by pretty fast and I got what I could. Every time I see him go by I can never get my phone out fast enough, but this time I barely did.
Basically, he drives by, plays loud music, and sings with a sock monkey at people on the sidewalk. He calls himself Extremo the Clown. For those interested in learning more about Extremo, you can check out his website here: http://www.extremotheclown.blogspot.com/
His van is fairly well known in Portland, so I was happy I was finally able to get a photo of it, he just happened by when I was walking to my car after work today. According to his website he also works as a window painter. Anyway, I thought those of you who don’t live around here and haven’t seen him might find it interesting.

Beck Concert in Bend, OR

(Yes I took this picture with my camera phone. Excuse the poor quality)

I don’t go to a whole lot of concerts, but this week I went to a couple and I was lucky enough that both of them turned out to be great. It’s not always that way; I’ve certainly been to a few forgettable ones. But both Beck and Roger Waters turned in really great performances.

Compared to the Roger Waters concert, I was a little unsure of what to expect from Beck, as I am a bigger Roger Waters fan. I’d heard some conflicting things about his shows going into it. Beck was really into the performance though, and really catered to the audience in Bend by talking about different things he’d done while he was in town, and doing a small, brief song about the town. He also changed a song lyric here and there and replaced some of the locations with “Bend.”

As you may be able to tell, I was able to get decently close to the stage, which probably helped the experience a bit. The people around me were really into the show as well, which obviously also helps the atmosphere. There were also some, ummm, illegal substances around and at one point he said “There’s some interesting smells up here. Kind of a potpourri of Bend.” And yes, there was quite a bit of that going on. My clothes reeked of it when I got back to the hotel room and I didn’t even have any. But I guess that was to be expected. I was actually surprised it wasn’t that way at the Roger Waters concert.

I’ve got about four or five videos and a lot of pictures, I’ll post some here and some later for those who are interested. I already posted a video a little earlier tonight.

I don’t suppose anyone else on here attended the same show?

More Concerts

Tomorrow I’ll be traveling to Bend, OR to see Beck in concert at the Amphitheater. Should be a great show and I understand its a really cool venue. Metric will be the opening band.
